Un antico Castello in posizione panoramica con vista sui Sassi di Roccamalatina
An ancient location of one of the four fortresses that the Malatigni built around the Sassi between the 13th and 14th centuries, Castellaro is a small residential nucleus at the top of a steep sloping hill with panoramic views over the Sassi di Roccamalatina. There are several important architectural elements of the settlement which point to its 14th to 15th century origins.
With a more prominent position than Borgo dei Sassi, on a rocky outcrop, you will see an isolated square-shaped tower. The walls are rendered in sandstone whilst the top part lends a more decorative look to the structure thanks to the presence of numerous holes for swifts found all over the building.
