The biggest Zampone festival in the world!
The event, organised and promoted by the Municipality of Castelnuovo Rangone, in collaboration with the Ordine dei Maestri Salumieri (Order of Master Pork Butchers), represents a fundamental moment for the promotion and appreciation of the typical and excellent food products of our territory.
The invention of the world's largest zampone (pig's foot sausage) festival dates back to 1989 and is linked to the prank of a group of people from Castelnuovo who displayed a two-metre-long papier-mâché zampone.
The giant zampone, three metres long by one metre in diameter, is cooked in an enormous four-metre-long stainless-steel pot. The preparation and cooking (the zampone will weigh about the same as last year's, i.e., more than 400 kg) takes about three days.
