The Middle Ages come alive again in Savignano sul Panaro at the end of November.
The Middle Ages come alive again in Savignano sul Panaro not only during the historical re-enactment of the ‘Lotta per la Spada dei Contrari’ (Fight for the Contrari Sword), but also at the end of November with the traditional Medieval Markets.
Set up along the streets and squares of the old village and inspired by the Christmas festivities, they offer gifts, artistic crafts and various artefacts. What makes the Medieval Markets unique is the setting in which they take place. The village is illuminated by torches on the walls of the houses and bonfires by the side of the roads, while vendors wear medieval costumes. Numerous refreshment stands offer irresistible delicacies such as borlenghi, piadine, crescentine, grilled sausage and deep-fried fish, as well as fried cream, bomboloni, roasted chestnuts, ciacci and strudel. Everything is accompanied, of course, by a wide selection of drinks such as local wines, craft beer, Irish coffee, hot chocolate and the ever-present mulled wine.
Finally, an exhibition of nativity scenes along the streets completes the offer, in addition to travelling shows, games, animated readings and music, with concerts of bagpipers and classical music.
